IZERE

Izere Coffee is a family company; founded by the mother, run by the daughter. These two are passionate about producing and selling specialty coffee while making sure that the communities that provide the beans truly benefit from the company’s activity. We want to take our customers with us on a journey of discovery of the character of the Burundian bean. We believe that our coffee is a fitting ambassador of the product of Burundi’s rich soil and the dedication of local small farmers. We work to make our coffee easily accessible to local and global markets, to make it known to and appreciated by coffee connoisseurs and amateurs alike.

I tried a medium-light roast degree to keep the focus on the floral / fruit aspects of the coffee and was rewarded with flavors of Earl Grey, Lavender, and Dark Honey. I think I will be able to develop these aspects even more in future roasts, but this was a great first experience!

Mike from Joyful café

The new coffee is being well received by my customers. They seem to like it better than the previous one. I should have roasted more this week! I have enjoyed a number of cups. Both as espresso and regular coffee. I find there is a good deal of flavour there, leaning to a bit of bitter chocolate – though the caramel isn’t gone. There is less acid than the last (Murago) coffee. Though it doesn’t lack in acidity – it seems well balanced on this. There is also a very nice body to it. Lots of mouth feel

Burundi Izere coffee is our best kept secret and, if you step away from your usual choice, you will discover a fine bodied, classy tasting cup of coffee. When I asked Deborah, literally the farmer’s daughter here in Canada what image she associated with her coffee she exclaimed, “It would look like every woman, every mother who works in the coffee business picking every single bean to get the greatest coffee, it would look like this beautiful country with God-given hills where trees look like heaven and it would also look like you at the receiving end making people a specialty single origin, micro-lot coffee, putting a smile on each individual seeking joyfully a cup of coffee. It would look like a way of inspiring hope (Izere) to each other for a better future
