IZERE

Why Direct Trade?

Direct trade is a type of trade in which the producer and buyer work in direct contact with each other. Izere coffee values direct trade as we cherish the relationship that we have with our farmers in Burundi. We have cultivated a mutual exchange of respect, trust, and appreciation. We enjoy being involved in the process and seeing first hand the people involved in making our coffee possible. The main goal of our direct trade process is to support a higher quality of life for our farmers.

Izere coffee is proud to work with coffee cooperatives in Burundi that:

  • Support the communities by paying school fees of the farmer’s children
  • Produce high-quality specialty coffees
  • Are committed to environmentally sustainable practices (waste management, without the use of pesticides and chemicals etc.)
  • Help with general medical needs and assistance in getting medical attention for pregnant women in the village
  • Employ and ensure women are paid fairly and that they benefit from what they worked hard for

Our Values

Hope and faith

As reflected in the brand’s name, Izere is founded on the values of hope and faith, traits that exemplify the strong spirit of resilience and optimism in the local people.

Empathy

We make it a point to treat every actor of the value chain with dignity and consideration.

Excellence

We put significant emphasis, through different processes, on the quality of our product. We believe that our coffee should speak for itself.

Ownership

We are cognizant of the importance of ensuring that every actor on the value chain has a strong sense of ownership. From the small farmer in the hills to the final consumer, we would like to create a close-knit faithful community that is invested in and shares the success of Izere.
